Ursula Mogensen
Ursula Mogensen is a queer, genderfluid human who lives with invisible disabilities, including ADHD-Combined type, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. Their pronouns are They/Them Causing Mayhem, and they identify as a Menace. They are a multi-disciplinary visual artist, a singer and musician, and a former professional dancer and dance instructor, who currently works as a Data & Planning Librarian. Ursula is a spiritual being living a human experience and is a practicing witch with more tarot cards than they could ever use in their lifetime. They have no dream job as they do not dream of labour, but being a librarian has come close.
A lifetime of performance, teaching, and public speaking experience has provided Ursula with a strong and confident voice - they are an articulate and outspoken advocate for themselves and their communities. In professional settings, they have applied this through team leadership while working with Halifax Public Libraries for over a decade, facilitating educational workshops for colleagues, and teaching classes in both formal and informal settings virtually and in-person. As a workshop leader and speaker, they are engaging, dynamic, and skilled at meeting any audience where they are at.
Their education includes a DEC in Fine Arts from Champlain Regional College, an Interdisciplinary BFA from NSCAD University, and a MLIS from Dalhousie. They have always been passionate about EDIRA work and have recently completed a Certificate in Diversity and Inclusion Development offered by their workplace, where they are also a member of their department’s internal EDIRA staff team as well as being on the Diverse Hiring Panel roster. Ursula is a life-long learner whose curiosity and ability to explore seemingly unrelated topics quickly and deeply allows them to rise to the challenge of offering multiple paths to understanding to others.
Their particular areas of interest and expertise include (but not limited to): anti-fat bias and fat activism; various aspects of 2SLGBTQIA+ community, including workplace inclusion and community-building; neurodivergence, particularly late-diagnosed, masking, and workplace inclusion; community-led engagement and librarianship; neo-paganism and modern witchcraft movements; and the intersection of any of these topics with each other or with other lenses. Additionally, they can speak to a multitude of different textile and fibre art practices, their intersection with gender, culture, and history, and the importance of creative play in the fast-paced modern world.
In 2026 their goals are to stay feral, become an even bigger menace, and continue the work of de-centering men and re-centering themselves as the only person they need to worry about disappointing.
