Jeffrey Roy
After navigating the journeys of his father dealing with cancer and his mother dealing with Parkinson’s disease (at the same time), Jeffrey discovered the keys to resilience, commitment, and caring for others. He renewed and deepened his passion to support, encourage, and develop others, cornerstones of his parents’ lives. Today, as an experienced speaker, Jeffrey seeks to contribute to the personal and professional growth of others. Jeffrey considers himself ‘one among’ those with a similar passion and commitment.
The passion that Jeffrey has for Public Speaking is an extension of the commitment to service he has had for almost 40 years. Jeffrey is active in three Public Speaking organizations. He joined Toastmasters in the spring of 1996. He achieved their highest designation (Distinguished Toastmaster) and is co-founder of the Toast Of The Coast Advanced Club, which in 2025 celebrated its 25th Anniversary. As of July 1 2026 he will be President of the Provincially Speaking Club in Halifax (also serving as its Vice president Education). He has three Executive roles with the DAL Toastmasters Club. He is a two-time Area Director, one who has oversight for several clubs.
Jeffrey is active in the Association Of Speakers Clubs, based in the UK. He is honoured to be president of their Redhill & Reigate Club, based south of London. He was trusted with that position shortly before the passing of Gwyn Redgers, a long-time influential figure in that organization.
The third organization Jeffrey participates in is Rostrum, based in Australia. He attends meetings of the Victoria Online Club. He was honoured to be offered and assume the role of Events & Competitions Convenor for the Victoria branch of the organization. Coaching & Evaluation are particular strengths of that organization.
Since May 2024 Jeffrey hosts a weekly show on the radio station CKDU. His show is called ‘Our Journey Together’ and features 100% Canadian music. It airs Wednesday mornings from 9 to 10AM (Atlantic Time). He begins each show with a poem and dedication to a single person or couple.
Following is part of a testimonial composed by one of Jeffrey’s Toastmasters colleagues: “His enthusiasm for Toastmasters is evident in the positive impact he brings to both the club and wider community…Jeffrey’s dedication to providing effective communication is further highlighted by his role as host (on CKDU radio).”
Jeffrey’s attitude towards Public Speaking & Community Service is poignantly described in the first verse of the poem ‘Ode On Solitude’ by Alexander Pope: “Happy the man, whose wish & care A few paternal acres bound, Content to breathe his native air, in his own ground.” Jeffrey’s “own ground” is Public Speaking & Community Service.
