Mapfumo "Maps" Chidzonga
Mapfumo Chidzonga is a Zimbabwean‑born storyteller, systems‑shaker, and self‑described belonging champion who has built his career at the intersection of equity, culture, and transformative leadership. Rooted in Hunhu/Ubuntu, the philosophy that “I am because we are. Since we are, therefore I am”, he brings an Africentric worldview that centres connection, humanity, and collective responsibility.
A first‑generation Canadian, husband and, father, Mapfumo has spent more than a decade transforming equity from aspiration into action across public institutions and community‑serving systems. His work has shaped everything from inclusive workforce strategies to bias‑free hiring tools, from psychological‑safety initiatives to engagement frameworks that honour underrepresented voices. Working at the intersection of policy, culture, and community wisdom, he has become a trusted architect of environments where belonging is not a slogan, but a lived practice. Throughout his career, Mapfumo has been known for embedding equity into complex systems, guiding leaders through transformative change, and ensuring that those most impacted have a meaningful seat and voice at the table.
Mapfumo’s speaking work spans campuses, conferences, and community forums across Canada, where he explores Hunhu/ Ubuntu, Africentricity, anti‑racism, inclusive leadership, and belonging as a radical act. He believes stories are mirrors: they reveal us to one another, remind us that we are bound by threads of shared humanity and resilience.
Guided by humour and humility, he lives by one simple mantra: if you leave a conversation with him without laughing or learning, he hasn’t done his job.
