Marissa Donovan
Marissa is a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner Student from Northern Nova Scotia with a special interest in Women and Children’s Health and Mental Health.
She survives, and tries to thrive through multiple mental health conditions including PTSD, OCD and ADHD. She is passionate about speaking to future healthcare workers about caring for themselves while they care for their patients.
Following the birth of her son, Marissa suffered a severe postpartum mental health crisis requiring inpatient psychiatric treatment. She speaks from the unique perspective of a nurse who became the patient and shares stories from this time in her life.
Currently Marissa is happy and healthy living with her husband, son and pets as she works to become a Nurse Practitioner and continues to advocate for Maternal Mental Health.
She founded a nonprofit, Lavender Village Society that aims to support NS mothers with their mental health and wellness. They currently offer care packages and peer support to mothers who are struggling in this area.
She hopes to inspire determination, awareness and compassion with her stories and knowledge sharing. Her topics can be heavy at times - with humour sprinkled throughout. She encourages you to feel your full range of emotions from sorrow to anger and back to laughter and hope.
