Born and raised in Halifax, Nova Scotia and proud to be a Maritimer #WelcometotheMaritimesman (Classified). Charlie John is of Lebanese origins and ethnicity — shawrma with extra garlic anyone?  I am described as someone who is easy-going, loves to smile, knows too much information about movies & sports, and loves catch phrases like “Just Bring It” (said often by Dwayne the “Rock” Johnson who also has ties to Nova Scotia).

In 2009, he obtained a B.A from Saint Mary’s University #gohuskies in Sociology & Criminology with a minor in Religious Studies. He is proud to count himself as a lifelong learner and over the years has earned an education in Business and Human Resources Management, Teach English Second Language (TESL) and is currently working on being a certified proofreader and editor.

For 10+ years, Charlie John ran his own small online tutoring business called Maritime Tutors.  He got the chance to work with kind and incredible students from all over the world. He learned from them as much as they learned from him.

Post pandemic he worked in sales in the telecom industry but quickly realized that wasn’t his passion. So, nine month ago and after a very very difficult two years dealing with his mental health — a battle that he has dealt with his entire adult life, frustration with the lack of support and resources available to people who suffer with mental health, lack of accommodation in the workplace, is was time for a change.  He teamed up with a non profit organization called the Canadian Council of Rehabilitation and Work who, with their amazing and supportive employees, strive to motivate and educate that “disability isn’t inability” and that with the right accommodations, support and patience, anything is possible.
